What is MassHealth CommonHealth?

MassHealth CommonHealth is a program for disabled adults and children who may not be eligible for MassHealth Standard. If you’re enrolled in MassHealth CommonHealth and also have Medicare, here are some potential benefits:

1. Coverage for Services Not Fully Covered by Medicare:

MassHealth CommonHealth may cover some services that Medicare doesn’t fully cover, such as prescription drugs, personal care attendant services, and some types of home health care. Original Medicare is Part A & B. Prescription drug coverage is Part D. If you take expensive prescription drug, then maybe this plan could help reduce the cost. If you enroll in a Medicare Part C Advantage Plan, this could also remedy the cost of prescription drugs. 2. Lower Out-of-Pocket Costs:

MassHealth CommonHealth can help lower out-of-pocket costs by covering Medicare premiums, deductibles, and co-payments. If you are not sick, you may not see these premiums, but when you get sick, it will soon become apparent. 3. Comprehensive Coverage:

When combined with Medicare, MassHealth CommonHealth can provide more comprehensive health coverage. This insurance is called a “last payer”, it can help extend your Medicare coverage in areas that it lacks.

4. Community-Based Services:

MassHealth CommonHealth offers access to community-based services and supports that are not typically covered by Medicare. Call MassHealth to get more details and see if you need this service.

5. Behavioral Health Services:

MassHealth CommonHealth covers some behavioral health services that are not fully covered by Medicare. Do you need behavioral health services?

6. Vision and Hearing Services:

MassHealth CommonHealth may cover some vision and hearing services that are not fully covered by Medicare, such as eyeglasses or hearing aids. Original Medicare does not cover vision and hearing, but many Part C plan do. If you don’t have Part C, maybe you will need to use their vision and hearing plan. 7. Dental Coverage:

If you are planning on enrolling in Part C with a Dental coverage, it is likely that you may not need it for dental, only you can answer this question.

8. Home Modifications:

For those who qualify, MassHealth CommonHealth can cover certain home modifications to help individuals live more independently and safely in their own homes. Do you need home modifications?

9. Transportation:

MassHealth CommonHealth may cover non-emergency transportation to medical appointments, which is not typically covered by Medicare. Do you need transportation help?
